The Dream Catcher Story

Native Americans believe the night air is filled with dreams... both good and bad. The Dream Catcher, when hung over or near your bed, swings freely in the air and catches the dreams as they flow by.

The good dreams know how to pass through the dream catcher, slipping through the outer holes and sliding down the soft feathers so gently that many times the sleeping person does not know he or she is dreaming. The bad dreams get tangled in the dream catcher and never see the next light of day.

Our Dream Team uses the Dream Catcher to find the good dreams and get them to our patient.

Welcome to Dream Catchers

DreamCatchers is a group of volunteers working with terminally ill patients to try to make their dream or wish come true.

When a patient or patient's family contacts DreamCatchers, we gather information about the dream and then evaluate whether we can make it come true either in reality or through a simulation. If a patient dreams for a last sailboat trip with their family, we work to make that dream happen.
If another patient wants to climb Mount Everest, our team might use pictures and stories to simulate the summit expedition. In another case, we may help a patient go to a dance with his wife or her husband.

Our team works closely with hospice caregivers to make sure the patient is safe and receives the proper care. We work closely with various hospices in locations with Dreamcatchers clubs.

On July 18,2010, Dreamcatchers worked with Hospice of the Sandias to perform the first dream in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Follow the Dream Team this summer as they travel around the United States to set up DreamCatcher clubs in other cities.
